Habitat: Well-drained floodplain forests, cove forests, rich mesic to dry-mesic upland forests, stream banks, wet meadows, clearings, and low roadsides. Frequent in the Virginia mountains and n. Piedmont; infrequent elsewhere.

Wildlife Value: It attracts hummingbirds, bees and butterflies.
