Additional Info

Habitat: Open forests, woodlands, barrens, clearings, old fields, and road banks; most characteristic of dry soils, but occasionally occurring in seasonally saturated or alternately wet and dry hardpan soils, especially in the Coastal Plain. Common throughout Virginia.

Wildlife Value: This plant supports Wavy-lined Emerald (Synchlora aerata) larvae. Common Goldenrod flowers attract butterflies, native bees, honey bees and other pollinators. Members of the genus Solidago support specialized bees.  Songbirds eat the seeds.
