Habitat

Bogs, fens, seeps, seepage swamps, and rocky stream banks. Frequent in the Virginia mountains; infrequent in the Piedmont; rare in the Coastal Plain

Wildlife value

This plant supports Viceroy (Limenitis archippus) and Acadian Hairstreak butterfly larvae. Flowers are pollinated by native bees and honey bees
