Habitat: Vining plant that grows on well lit forested edges and open stream banks. Infrequent in the Virginia Coastal Plain and Piedmont; rare in the mountains

Notes: This native vine is in the dogbane family. They are herbaceous, twining vines with broad, opposite, ovate (often heart-shaped) leaves with maroon flowers
