Habitat: Spruce and spruce-fir forests, northern hardwood forests, northern red oak forests, seepage swamp hummocks, and under shrubs and overhangs around high-elevation outcrops. Common in the Virginia mountains; rare in the northern and central Piedmont and adjacent inner Coastal Plain
