Habitat: Dry, acidic forests, woodlands, outcrops, and clearings; less typically in seasonally saturated or boggy forests, depressions, and flatwoods. Common throughout Virginia

Wildlife Value: Berries are eaten by birds and mammals. Host plant to the Henry's Elfin butterfly. Bees pollinate the flowers.
