Bogs, fens, wet flatwoods, depression ponds, interdune ponds and swales, ditches, and wet clearings. Common in the coastal Plain; infrequent in the piedmont and mountains.

Wildlife Value: This plant attracts bees, moths, butterflies, and other pollinators. Deer will frequent this plant. The flowers are cross-pollinated by bumblebees.
