Habitat: Mesic to dry-mesic, nutrient-rich montane forests; rich, mesic slope and floodplain forests eastward. Frequent to locally common in the Virginia mountains; frequent in the Piedmont; rare in the northern Coastal Plain

Wildlife Value: Its flowers attract bumblebees, small carpenter bees as well as other long-tongued bees
